During this time Lord George Macartney, a cousin of the English King, was sent to China as an ambassador. One day, Emperor Chien Lung summoned the prince to go with him and his entourage for a hunt, north of The Forbidden City.

The prince arrived at the royal palace and saw for the first time this extremely young and beautiful imperial concubine. He fell in love with her then and there. They all left The Forbidden City for the northern jungles, to hunt wild and ferocious boars around the royal hunting lodge.

During the hunt, a pack of wild and ferocious boars attacked the royal party and killed one concubine. The pack proceeded towards the emperor himself when, just in the nick of time, the prince saved the life of the emperor and this imperial concubine. When the whole chaos was over, the emperor summoned the prince and asked him what he wanted in return for saving him and his beloved concubine. The prince did not want any reward, but after constant insistence, the prince requested the emperors ring and his imperial concubine. When people around heard this, they were shocked at such a demand.

Later, when they all returned to Beijing, the emperor sent his imperial concubine with all fan fare to the princes palace. The princes life was now full of happiness, and so was the life of the imperial concubine, until the emperor decided to move his palace to Jehol -- many, many miles from Beijing.

The whole imperial entourage moved with him, along with the prince and his imperial concubine. One day during the residence in Jehol, the emperor called the imperial concubine from the princes palace to visit him. He had an affair with her, which no doubt she could not refuse. When all returned to Beijing, the prince discovered his beloved concubines visit to the imperial bed in Jehol. She confessed that this was true.

He got very excited and mad. She asked for his forgiveness, but he would not listen. He told her to get out of his sight and he never wanted to see her again -- that she should go back to the emperor. She told him she loves him and would not ever return to the emperor on her own free will. She said she would rather commit suicide. He told her to commit suicide if she wants, but never come back to him.She went to the courtyard of the servants and jumped into an abandoned well. The next day, the servants heard her crying and looked into the well where the voice was coming from, but they would not help her or rescue her -- for fear of their master, the prince. When the princes temper cooled down the next day, he was told the fate of the imperial concubine, but it was too late to save her.

He went out of his mind in agony for what he had done to his beloved, and he left the palace for days and days -- wandering through the city. Eventually, he ended up half dead in a cheap brothel. Later, after a long search, his staff found him. He never recovered and died soon afterward.
